Jewelry: What you should and should not do
The following tips
will help guide you in taking care of your jewelry and having it
shimmer to its full life and potential.
What you shouldn’t do:
First of all, you shouldn’t wear fine jewelry when doing any
household chores or gardening. This can cause the jewelry piece to
become dirty or damaged. Wearing jewelry while cleaning will also
expose it be being scratched or getting stuck in a power tool or
vacuum. You shouldn’t also just throw all your jewelry together.
Doing so can cause scratches or luster damage. Jewelry doesn’t
usually work well with one another. Also, you can get your necklaces
and bracelets all tangled up by just bunching them all together in
one place.
What you should do:
For keeping your jewelry maintained, you should take your jewelry to
the jeweler to have them check of loose stones often. Pearls should
also be restrung when the cord BEGINS to fray. You should also keep
the jewelry piece clean so it can be at its utmost shine. When
storing your jewelry, it is very important that you keep it in a dry
place that isn’t exposed to extreme temperatures or moisture. It
would also be best to store the jewelry separately so that they
won’t be able to come in contact with one another (which can cause
scratching). To do so, you should use separate compartments for each
piece of jewelry or sort them separately into small sealing pouches,
or soft cloth wraps. Your jewelry box should also not be overstuffed
with your jewelry. Doing so can make it easy to misplace or lose
jewelry in it as well as bend fragile pieces or scratch other
jewelry pieces.
