Maintaining diamonds

Although cleaning your jewelry can sometimes be a hassle, it helps keep the luster of your jewelry in a more brilliant shape. However, to make sure you’re cleaning your jewelry correctly, we’ve provided you with some tips on maintaining your jewelry.

First of all, we know that maintaining a diamond can be quite difficult as a jewelry setting can make cleaning efforts complicated with oils, grease and other oily substances that are attracted to the surface of diamonds. With the diamond market in such high demands though, it’s worthwhile to keep it clean and shiny (and at the envy of others). For cleaning diamonds, some jewelers use sudsy ammonia cleaning kits while others will use ultrasonic cleaners. For diamonds, both will do the trick for keeping it cleaned. However, beware that some cleaners can do damage to jewelry, especially “soft” jewelry. Therefore, it’s not a good idea to use one type of cleaning agent for all your jewelry. For example, some rings are made coated with a dark pigment to reduce the shine of it; using ultrasonic cleaning can actually remove that necessary coating. Another example would be with permeable or soft jewels and gems such as pearl, in which some cleaning solutions can cause wearing on them.

Although a clean diamond wouldn’t affect its value in the market, a dirty diamond ring compared to a clean diamond ring can certainly give people different impressions of the jewelry piece. A diamond would also just simply be more attractive as it catches more light and gives off more luster when it’s clean. Wouldn’t you rather have a clean diamond than a dirty one?
